About

cassieAbout the owner, Robyn Carlson, M.Agr.:
I have two small children, and along with my husband, we run the farm.

I was raised in Laramie, Wyo., and in Cedaredge, Colo., where my family raises performance reining horses. I attended Colorado State University, where I completed a dual Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Agricultural Business, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Technical Communication in May 2010. I graduated with a Master’s of Agriculture in Integrated Resource Management, also from CSU, in May of 2011.

Following graduation, I joined the staff of The Fence Post as a reporter and photographer. I then took the position of Director of Communications with Colorado Farm Bureau, and then worked as the Director of Marketing and Communication for the American Boer Goat Association. Since 2015 I have run my own company, Cowgirl Publications LLC. I works in the non-profit agricultural organizations sector, and publish a magazine for sheep and goat producers called The Show Wether.

I was an active FFA member, and received my American Degree in 2009. My experience in FFA led me to start Champion Livestock. I love to work with 4-H and FFA members on their livestock projects, and hopes to continue to inspire youth to raise livestock.

first litterHistory of Champion Livestock:
Champion Livestock was started in 2006 in Delta County, Colorado. That year for the fair I unknowingly bought a hog that had porcine stress syndrome, and it died the day before weigh in. I was devastated, but continued with the show. My gilt, Shanae, was named the Reserve Grand Champion Delta County Bred and Fed Swine, and I was hooked on showing. I decided to keep her and breed her because I wanted to provide superior animals for students to show, without the risk of faulty genetics and illnesses. I looked at her own experiences, and saw that there was a need for animals that were treated humanely and with good animal husbandry practices.

The Boer and dairy portion of the business was expanded into simultaneously in the summer of 2009, when I was looking for another animal that I could show, since I had aged out of showing hogs. I originally pursued Boer goats, but bought my first dairy goat as a companion and decided to keep both. The show pig venture was ended in 2015 to focus on the goats.

nigisThe livestock are part of my family’s way of life, and we believe in treating them with dignity and respect. Animals from Champion Livestock are treated using humane animal husbandry practices and are taken care of with the highest quality. Records are kept records on all animals, and meeting their nutritional, mental and health needs are a daily priority.
